Ryan McGinley for the NYTimes Magazine

Take a look at the refreshing portfolio, Highfliers, shot by Ryan McGinely in today’s New York Times Magazine profiling some of the upcoming winter Olympians. I have to say, although he gets flak in certain circles for his carefree style, shall we say,  I just really dig his work.

Therapy Session

This is something I’m still unsure about posting, but here I go.

I always talk about my self portraits as a form of therapy. Well, here I am, in true form, confronting my camera, letting it all out. Seeking guidance. Feeling hurt. Alone. And documenting it.

I have to say, I did feel a bit better after taking these images.

Instruments of Empire

Instruments of Empire at the Caption Gallery in Dumbo is a show you don’t want to miss.  The combination of Amy Stein’s Stranded Series with Brian Ulrich’s Dark Stores series is a beautiful seamless blend where the images look like they were made to be shown together.

The opening was stellar- jam packed with a who’s who in the fine art photo world. I was happy to finally meet in person Shen Wei and Jen Davis, two photographers whose work I have been closely following.

Latest from the Chelsea scene

I made the Chelsea rounds last night and thought I’d share some of the incredible work I saw.

I started out at Daniel Cooney to see Timothy Briner’s show, Boonville. It’s open til Feb 27 and well worth the visit. Beautiful silver gelatin prints and a stunning example of a well executed singular vision.

Next up was Alex Prager who I love at Yancey Richardson Gallery with a series titled “Week-end”. Her work is eye-candy to me.

Then off to Hasted Hunt Kraeutler for Paolo Ventura’s Winter Series. Incredible to see the photographs together with the original illustrations and the model figures he used.

After hitting up those must see’s I moved on to the opening circuit and went to Danziger Projects to see the opening of James Danziger’s show curated from his blog The Year in Pictures. It was a smorgasbord of images displayed in a salon setting featuring Jowhara AlSaud, Chan-Hyo Bae, Thomas Bangsted, Mandy Corrado, Stephen Gill, Joseph Holmes, Alejandra Laviada, Greg Miller, David Schoerner, Patrick Smith, Tommy Ton, Scout Tufankjian, Oliver Warden, Katherine Wolkoff, and Tsukasa Yokozawa.

And finally went to the Hendershot Gallery for the opening of the show ‘Trying Them On’ curated by Jon Feinstein featuring Claire Beckett, Helen–Maurene Cooper, Andrea Robbins and Max Becher, and Michael Bühler-Rose. This was one of those events that was so packed that you ended up being there to schmooze as opposed to seeing the art. They also served fancy mixed drinks, score!

Was happy to run into Deidre Schoo, Kris Graves, Greg Miller, Elizabeth Barragan, Rachel Hulin, Will Stacey and Zach Gross out and about.

Brunch with the Hermans 2k10

For those unfamiliar, my sibs and I get together every year and host an annual ‘Brunch with the Hermans.’ We had several in New York but this year we took it out west to San Fransisco. I’ve done a time lapse video the past few times, below is from last week.  Enjoy!
