When spending time with my dad, I like to accompany him on his favorite hobby; trespassing. Ok ok, that may be a tad of an overstatement. For the most part we actually do know the owners, it’s simply that they might not actually be aware of our little excursions. When we head out, my dad, of course, has read his bible (the real estate guide) cover to cover and knows exactly which properties are under construction or on the market and the adventure begins. I share with you one such recent journey.

Fabulous opening last night at Kris Grave’s Projects.

Greg Miller returned to Nashville, Tennessee in 2008 after receiving the John Simon Guggenheim Fellowship in order to re-examine his hometown. Nashville looks at spaces and locations relevant to Miller’s childhood, from his grandmother’s home to the different neighborhoods where he lived. Miller attempts to reconstruct his past, searching for the city he once knew, amidst that which has inevitably changed. Casting strangers as characters from faded memories allows him to rediscover his past while moving forward to new narratives.

Running concurrently with Greg Miller, +Kris Graves Projects is proud to announce Ruben Natal-San Miguel’s NY, NY: Concrete Jungle. This exhibition is curated by Matthew Pillsbury

After surviving the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 while living in a high rise apartment near the World Trade Center, Ruben began to search for a low-density neighborhood where he could continue to live in Manhattan. He found Harlem. Inspired by the area, he has spent the past five summers traveling Upper Manhattan by bicycle, chronicling, with his camera, the character of life in areas that have historically been ignored by the government and by mainstream America.

Scope Art with Cara Philips

I spent the day yesterday at the Scope Art Show helping out artist Cara Philips. In conjunction with the exhibition of her Ultraviolet Beauties at the show, she set up a studio and offered collectors the chance to get a commissioned Ultraviolet portrait. Cara with her own UV self portrait

I had worked with Cara on her previous UV shoot when we were out in Union Square. It was fascinating to see the stark contrast between that shoot (in the streets, shooting random passersby, free) versus yesterdays shoot (contemporary art world’s invitation only high society, commissioned) Yet, even though the shooting atmospheres couldn’t have been more polar, once shot, the images became unified into her singular body of work and they are all simply stunning!

I saw this photo yesterday on my friend Ariel’s design blog and I just loved the image. It immediately evoked feelings of summertime, nakedness and all. Then I noticed it was shot by our non-photographer friend Kate Treitman. Nice job Kate, keep shooting!

In a few hours I’m heading off to Mumbai to visit my best friend Manjari Sharma who has been in India the past month catching up with her family. (that is, if the plane actually takes off in this weather!). I figure now would be an appropriate moment to introduce you to her incredible work.

Manj has been killing it recently with her Shower Series. Here are some of my favorites:

Although she has not shot me in the shower just quite yet, I have been the subject of her photographs in the past. She shot this one last year while on Martha’s Vineyard with me.

Manj is a huge part of my New York life and I have most certainly felt her absence while she’s been away. So excited to catch up with her in her homeland tomorrow. This will be my first time in India. Get ready for many many photos upon my return. In the mean time, check out Manj’s blog to see what she’s been up to in India so far.
